Lovanger

We've now stopped at Lovanger to see the largest "church village" in the country.

Early in the 18th Century travel was slow and often easier in winter on the frozen roads. The church built cabins for people to stay in whilst attending the many festivals of the time. These cabins became known as church villages.

The oldest cabins date from 1736 and were regularly used until the mid 1900's. These are the original stables which could house 2 or 3 horses at a time and were shared between several families.
