Oslo - Day Two

Today we decided to visit the Royal Palace followed by the National Gallery.
After cycling back into the city we arrived at the Palace to be told that you need to book tickets online or wait until just before each tour starts to see if there are any spare. We were then told that you could buy tickets at the Majorstuen metro station which was 1.5km away. We had some time before the 12am tour so we walked to the metro station. When we arrived the ticket office had no idea what we were talking about! We went into a newsagent and discovered they sell the tickets but unfortunately their machine had stopped working. We were directed to another newsagents but they had ran out of tickets.

Somewhat miffed we headed back to the Palace only to discover we were too late for the 12am tour. The next tour was at 2pm and as I had a work conference call, Emma went on her own - apparently it was very interesting and "oh wise one" is now fluent in Norwegian history.

Aker Brygge - harbour side shops and apartments

The tradesman's entrance at the back of the Royal Palace - the front garden has a large hole in it as they're improving the drainage.

After the Palace we went to the National Gallery which had a large exhibition of Edvard Munch's work. Not really my taste but Emma enjoyed it. There was a small selection of the galleries permanent works by other artists in the remaining few rooms - I liked Picasso's guitar and the large landscape scenes (these are called "Romanticist works" apparently!)

A treat at the end of a long and slightly frustrating day
