After dinner I stripped the remaining mirror casing off to reveal the metal mounting arm. Fortunately there was enough metal left to attach the new mirror which had a large clamp on it's back. Several trusty zip ties and some duct tape and we're back in business.

Not as good as the original but pretty good until we can afford a complete new mirror unit.
