Snowy Mountains

Today we're exploring the Snowy Mountains which are about 1hr from our campsite in Cooma. These are the highest mountains in Australia with Mount Kosciuszko the tallest at 2,228m (not that big then!).

We passed some strange bolders en-route.

Lake Jindabyne on our way up the mountains

The first signs of snow - in Australia!!!

We drove up to Thredbo which is at 1380m and the temperature today is a very chilly 2 degC - at this time of year the snow at this altitiude is manmade as it's only early winter.

Look out behind you....

We wanted to drive further up the mountain, particularly as we'd paid $27 to enter the National Park, but we discovered that you need to carry snowchains to go higher than Thredbo. Sadly Em hadn't packed any in her luggage :-)
