Lakes Entrance, Victoria

After four weeks working in Melbourne we finally made it away yesterday and drove about 350km east to Lakes Entrance.

Today we went for a walk along the shore of the eastern lake.

Pelicans catching their lunch....

.... and having a well earned rest with their friends the cormorants.

The Lakes Entrance entrance was cut through the sand dunes in 1859 to allow navigation into and out of these inland lakes. Where the water flowing out of the lakes meets the sea there is a large standing wave. If you look closely there are two seals playing in the nearest wave crest.

Outside of Lakes Entrance is 90 mile beach.

.... still resting!

  1. The only native Pelicans we've seen in the UK are at the side of busy roads!
