Off we go again on our travels!
We left Em`s parent`s house yesterday morning and set off on part two of our adventure. We made it two miles when Em realised she`d forgotten something.... ten minutes later we set off again.
In attempt two we made it 5 miles when a large bang came from the back of Kiki and the steering went heavy. We pulled over to discover a flat tyre - in fact the tyre inner sidewall had blown out leaving a large vertical split!
We called International Rescue, put the kettle on and settled down for a long wait. The kettle was almost boiling when, I kid you not, the AA man arrived! One cup of coffee and a slice of yummy banana cake (thanks Yvonne) and we were on our way again.
The rest of our journey to Dover was uneventful and we rocked up at the P&O checkin at 9pm. We were very early as our booking wasn't until 4am but you never know as we usually manage to get on an earlier crossing. Sadly this time we lucked out and were told to come back at 2am.
We parked up for a few hours on Marine Parade and had a nap. Returning to the port at 2am we were booked onto the next ferry.
After a smooth crossing we parked up for the remainder of the night in the large car park next to the P&O ticket office in Calais.
After another 3hrs sleep (making about 5hrs in total) we set off this morning to the nearest petrol station (only €1.28/litre) where we filled up fuel and LPG. Next stop the supermarket for provisions then we had a short drive down the coast to an Aire at St Cecile Plage where we`re spending the night.
The long (cold) sandy beach at St Cecile Plage - fancy a dip anyone?
When I read it the first time I'm sure you said Carrot Cake!
ReplyDeleteAh yes..... well spotted - I did the initial post using the Kindle on Monday night and then updated it adding the pics last night when we were on WiFi at the campsite. Em noticed my deliberate(!) mistake so I corrected it in version two!!
ReplyDeleteThe banana cake was fab - all finished now though :-(
The Kindle is seeing a lot of action (Em's a Facebook addict so she's delighted with it... now!) and it appears to be free to access the internet on 3G in Europe.
