My contract with Rolls-Royce in Germany finished early and I was given a week's paid "garden leave" - another first! We packed up the "party car" - Em's Fiesta - and returned to the UK on Monday 19th December via the Chunnel. We collected Kiki from the site in Cornwall where she'd been on holiday whilst we were in Germany and parked up at Kenford International campsite south of Exeter. Quite and expensive site but convenient for visiting our folks.
A lovely Christmas day was spent at Em's Nan & Grandad's - we ate so much we couldn't move for days afterwards and came away with enough food to stock a small supermarket. We later gave away most of the chocolate as we're both on diets to enable us to fit into our wedding dresses!!
New Year's Eve was spent with our friends from SWAG at a barn dance in North Petherton. Em and I had a night of luxury in a farmhouse B&B in Yeovil. Breakfast next morning was a somewhat drawn out affair as the owner had been up until 4am with other guests and didn't surface until 11am - we had asked for breakfast at 10am so as to get away to visit my folks in the morning.
January was fairly mild and sort of drifted by visiting friends and family. Em had an operation on 4th January and spent several weeks recuperating. We finally managed to get the Gaslow gas bottles sorted out after nearly two years of putting up with a faulty non-return valve on the filler pipe. This meant that both bottles emptied together instead of having a primary & secondary - embarassing when we ran out of gas on a icy cold night in December 2010. After initiallly trying to persuade me to take Kiki all the way to their workshop in Loughborough, they eventually relented and sent Dave their "warranty man" out to us. A few days later Dave from Gaslow arrived and changed both bottles and the rubber seals in double quick time. Superb service and only delayed by the fact that we were out of the country so much.
